Photography awards
Photography competitions aren’t for everybody, and certainly I felt they weren’t for me earlier on in my photography journey. So why was that? Fear of failure? Very probably. A belief my images weren’t good enough? Absolutely! I really wanted to become a better photographer but my biggest stumbling block was I had no real benchmark to measure any improvement against. So I began to wonder whether the very act of selecting images to enter into competitions might actually make me look at my own images differently. Perhaps I would learn to look at them critically and objectively, using my head and not just my heart. And perhaps that shift could help to move me forward. I realise that competitions will always be subjective…that what one judge likes, another may not…but interestingly, in terms of progress, I think I have learnt more from the images that didn’t do well than those that did. So competition entry for me is not about trumpet-blowing and kudos. It’s about validation and learning.
Below are a selection of my successful images that I would like to share with you. I do hope you enjoy them. Please click on the individual images to see a larger version.
